Another HOT one today! I usually try to stay out of the heat but I didn't manage it today. Terry took my to the shop this morning because the car was acting up, then took Sarah Beth down to Granny's to play with cousin Gregg. Dougie (Terry's brother) shows up at the shop about 10 wanting to know if I will drive him to New Albany to see a lawyer about his disability benefits. Well, I didn't even have a key to lock up so he had to go find Terry at the sawmill to get the key to lock the shop door. Doug was back about 11 with the key so we locked up and I drove his car towards New Albany. He does not like driving on anything bigger then a 2 lane road, makes him nervous. Any way we got within 2 exits of our exit of choice and come across a traffic stand still because of an accident ahead. We sat there about 10 minutes in 90+ degrees, motor running, air conditioner at full and the car dies...... Will start back but wont run. Wait a few minutes, startes, yeah! dies..... so we sit a while, people want around, people think we want to turn and beep and wave us ahead, no deal, wont run. We finally get a cop to see whats up and he gives us the number to a couple of tow trucks. Wait awhile and start it again, yeah, it runs! Slam it in gear and take off up the side ramp. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee........Dead again. Wait..... call Mom, wait, try again. Slam it in drive and take off. Whee..... well you know the rest. We make it to the off ramp on the State St. in New Albany and sit there a while. We decided not to tackle the next few stop lights and have it die in the intersection so we get out the trusty cell phone and call a tow truck. "Well", he says, "It may take a while, there's been an accident on the interstate, you know". Duh, we know! I walk down the ramp and over to the conveniently located Rent-a-Car place to get us a ride home but don't have enough equity on my credit card. I walk over to the Burger King and sit in the shade and leave poor Doug out in the sun on the ramp in the hot car, naughty me. Wrecker finally show and takes us to the local greasy joint called a repair shop. Sorry, we are full up. Can't even look at it until in the morning. Hmmmmm...... back to the rent-a-car place, with Doug's credit card this time. We get a cute little red car and go find something to eat. Call the lawyer and see if we can still get in, about 2 hour late. He says come on over so that takes another hour. Head home about 5pm and 50 miles never looked so long! Dougie didn't say much on the way home, he was probably thinking about all the money this was going to cost him. Terry says he has probably $50,000 in the bank but doesn't want to spend a dime, he only put 3 gallon of gas in the car and is horrified if he will have to pay for two day's rental on the car. I will probably have to go down with him again tomorrow to take the rental back. I am sure glad I learned to drive on the highways of good ole Dallas, Texas. Nothing can scare me now! It's good to be back home in the country though.

Had a good lunch at Mom's today. Lots of good food and good company. It was hot but we had a nice shade tree and a brand new 8 ft. red cedar picnic table to eat from.

Thanks Sharon, for delivering my pup to her new home. We will miss her, she was our favorite. Small world isn't it? She is close enough for you to keep an eye on her for me.

Today Terry sold the outhouse he made. It went to a photography studio in New Salisbury to be used as a prop for the children's photos. That will be cute. The same studio bought the old camel back trunk that we had for sale a while back and I say a photo of some dogs taken with the trunk.

We finally broke down and turned the air conditioner on tonight. I think it was just last week that we had a fire in the stove and now it is so hot we need the air.

I found a little information on the 'ditney tea' you were talking about. Click HERE to see what I found.

Lois and I and Tim and Sis went to Mom's for lunch on Tuesday. We had Yvonne's Ziploc Easter Omelets. They were really good and easy to do. Thanks Yvonne for the great idea. Omelets, toast, hashbrowns and coffee. Good stuff! Sis even ate a whole omelet and that is something to celebrate. We'll have to do it again sometime.
This is what Terry does on rainy days when he can't work in the woods. He is really proud of the little outhouse but he really gets discouraged when he makes something and it doesn't sell the next day. Silly boy! you just have to wait until the right person comes in and sees it and just can't live without it. It will sell, just wait. He wants $75.00 for the out house.
The picnic table is solid inch and a half red cedar, 8 foot long. It's heavy, believe me! We have moved it around a few times.
He did sell a swing like this for $80.00, the day after he made it.
Thats my baby!

I just went through my pictures and picked out a few to share. This iris is my latest trade. The color in this picture is not really good but it is a beautiful flower. Pink and yellow and gold.Sarah Beth took the picture of the rose and she titled it, "Caged Beauty".

It looks like she can't believe it is such a little puppy!

Are they getting any bigger? They sure love to play outside now. Click Here to see some cute photos of their first day to play outside. It is really hard to try and keep track of all 11 puppies, you are constantly counting bodies while the bodies are on the move! We can't afford to loose one. I have all but 3 or 4 sold all ready.

Here is what Terry did tonight, he tried to plow a pathetic little tomato patch with a pathetic little tiller. He'll get it done and we will be eating ripe tomatoes in no time flat! (I wish!)

We said Goodbye to Mickey, the pit bull mix. I was able to find him a new home through my puppy website. Some one that came to look at the puppies and put a deposit down on one, saw him on the website and wanted him. I hope he has a good home, it is so difficult to really know if the people are sincere and honest when you question them about the dog's future. It bothers me a lot but I don't know how I can be sure without having a case worker for each dog that goes and checks on them occasionally.

These are my latest acquisitions. I traded with an old lady at the top of hill across from the gas station. I did not have either of these in my collection so I am happy. I almost have the driveway lined on both sides now. It should be really pretty next spring.

Isn't this the life?

What has happened to my dirty little girl? Tonight she decided to take a shower and wash her hair! That would be the first time she has ever taken a shower on her own without a bucket load of fussing and whining. She has been combing her hair about 5 times a day the last few days and usually I have to remind her many times in the mornings just to get it brushed out one time a day. I knew this day would come and have been looking forward to it but now that it is here........where has my little dirty ragamuffin gone? I don't know if it will last but I bet if it doesn't last, it will be back shortly. 12 years old! I look at her and say to my self, "How did I manage that?" I am just little ole Ruthie, I am not supposed to be a grown up Mom with a 12 year old girl! I wouldn't change it for the world though, she has taught me a lot. That old saying is true, "If I only knew then, what I know now."

I traded flowers with that lady and here is what I got. I might have one like the lavender on, I am not sure but I know I don't have the yellow and white one. We mowed grass tonight and I use the trimmer. But only on half of the place, I want to be able to use my arms tomorrow and that trimmer has a thing about making me weak when I use it a while. Funny what summer, and daylight savings time does to you. We didn't come in the house to eat supper tonight until 9pm! I was just commenting to DH about how things are so different in the winter. In Dec. Jan. and Feb. we have supper done by 6 and then sit and watch TV until 11.

This is just some of the iris I have along my driveway. I couldn't get them all in the picture. This should get even prettier, all have not bloomed yet. You can see we took the old fence down that was up around the cow pasture. Sure makes it looks nicer. We want to move Pete's barn next. Yesterday I spotted some colors that I do not have in a yard so today I stopped and ask the lady if she would like to trade. She said she would so I am going to dig a few tomorrow and see what I can trade her out of.
Here he is! He's pit bull lab mix. Looks to be about 4 months old. I checked some pit bull rescue sites but it looks like they have to be neutered before you can even offer them for adoption. I am thinking about putting this picture on my website and seeing if I can get any intrested parties that way. Sis named him Mickey. He has put on quit a bit of weight since we found him. He is a nicer dog too, he was so scary and didn't want to be touched but that has changed since Sis has been around him. I think I know where he came from too. On the way to the shop tonight, in Taswell, we saw a lady with a dog on a leash. It was a female pit bull that looked just like the dog above and she had recently had pups. I am not sure where she lives but it wouldn't have been very far away from where we saw her.

These are Sofia's girls, Tessy, Ella, Cleo and Angel at 4 weeks old.

The boys are Chevy and Leo.

Yes, I took these myself and I always leave one whole day for taking puppy pictures. They would make cute calendar pictures wouldn't they?

My favorite is still the sleeping baby below.

Ahhhhhhh.......Terry thinks it looks dead but I know it is just sleeping and I think it is soooo cute!

We caught the silly bugger! Terry, my hero, emptied the trap for me. I washed my counters down with clorox and wiped out all traces but may have to do it again in a few days but so far it is clean.

Wednesday, May 03, 2006

He's baaaaack! He sprung the trap last night, ate the bait and went away happy so Terry set two traps tonight. I heard one trap snap while watching TV and Sis checked it but he wasn't in it. Looks like he licked off the peanut butter but the bread was still there so I put some more peanut butter on it and will see if he scared himself too bad or maybe he'll come back for seconds.

I took all the eggs away from the cockatiels a while back. They were setting on duds for a month then would lay some more to go with them. When I cleaned them out, there were 6 eggs in there. Without eggs they would finally come out of the nest box and be a little more sociable but that didn't last long. I noticed them spending more time in the nest box so I checked and sure enough, another egg. I'll leave this one, or ones, a while. It gives them something to do to occupy their time and to have a reason to exist.

I know everybody gets tired of hearing about all these animals but really that all that ever happens here seems like. One thing that is happening, not animal related, is that my beautiful iris are beginning to bloom. We pulled down all the old cow fence along the driveway so I can get in there now and use the trimmer around them so they look really nice now. Some years, some flowers do not bloom but it looks like they are all going to bloom this year and all at one time too. It should be really pretty. I will take pictures but not just yet, we need a few more in bloom first.

Okay, I am sitting here waiting for the snap of the mouse trap while at least 2, maybe 3 cute little mice play tag on my kitchen counter amoung the dirty dishes. I have been seeing evidence the last few days so Terry set the trap tonight. It looks like I may need a few more traps. This has got to stop! Waiting.......... waiting.......... hmmm, maybe this is a smarter mouse then I thought. I have officially declared WAR! The ants picked a fight with me last week and I won and I know I will prevail in this crisis! Waiting........... waiting........(but he is soooo cute)

Well, somebody has to say something on here so I guess it will be me.

We had a good day Sunday at Mom's house despite the rain. The husbands all managed to be there and that is an accomplishment all by it's self! With so much testosterone around we put it to good use. We got the dry wall hauled up the stairs and even got a few pieces up on the ceiling. We got the piano moved but not without a lot of complaints but I think it was Terry doing all that. Ed and Terry put the new boards put down on the walkway and Kenny scraped the front porch for painting. Now, the next time we plan this, some body put the order in for a sunny day!

We have a new edition to the zoo around here. Coming in our driveway last Thursday we saw a pup that some one had dumped. It was very skinny, wormy and covered in ticks. It appears to be about 3-4 months old. It is the color of a chocolate lab but has a pit bull head. The vet said it is probably a lab-pit bull cross. It will get big! We don't want to keep it so I am in the process of trying to find it a home. I looked for a pit bull rescue site on the internet and it looks like we will have to have it neutered before we can list it for adoption. I didn't want to spend any money on it but........ I spent $25 this morning for shots and worming. I'll get a picture posted here soon.

Sharon, did you decide if you have some days off soon or will we be going to Kentucky on a weekend? I really need to get that done. Tonight Blade attacked Nemo in the pen and was out for blood! Nemo is 6 months old now and it starting to challenge Blade for top dog spot so I really need to separate them.

We have revival each evening this week so that keeps us occupied in the evenings for the remainder of the week. We are celebrating Sis. Joyce's 40 years as Pastor and will have a few guest speakers for all day meetings on Saturday with lunch served in the basement.
